Provost's Charge

On behalf of Indiana University, thank you in advance for your leadership, insights, and service to our community through our IUB 2030 planning process. By next spring, I am assured that our collective efforts will create a meaningful and ambitious plan for IU Bloomington that leads us to an even brighter future for 2030 and beyond. 

By March 1 of next year, I ask that the planning teams, led by the executive committee, deliver a recommended strategic plan for IU Bloomington.

Following the core values we have established for the planning process, the recommended plan will ideally have following characteristics: 

• Bold and ambitious – We must be willing to lead and pursue new levels of excellence 
• Strategic – The plan should combine our highest priorities and strongest opportunities  
• Meaningful for our entire community – All members of our community should be able to see themselves in our plan  
• Measurable – We must be able to chart our progress and successes in a tangible way 
• Actionable for 2030 and beyond – The plan must offer space for continued growth and advancement 

The recommended plan will have the following elements: 

• Clearly definable goals for our community in each of the three plan pillars: 
  • Student Success and Opportunity  
  • Transformative Research and Creativity 
  • Service to Our State and Beyond 

• For each goal, at least one measurable objective, with potential strategies to meet that objective. 

In completing the recommended plan, I ask that you closely consider the planning framework and suggested metrics provided by the University through IU 2030. I also ask that you carefully consider our AAU, BIG Ten, and other appropriate peer universities to determine how we can differentiate ourselves in bold and innovative ways.
