Dear IUB Community,
We enter our third century at a moment of historic opportunity for Indiana University Bloomington.
Our future looks bright as we prepare to build on longstanding strengths; create a more distinctive and meaningful student experience; elevate research and innovation; and foster a better future for our state and world.
Earlier today, President Whitten launched a new strategic planning framework for all IU campuses that sets in motion a bold seven-year vision: IU 2030.
The IU Bloomington strategic plan will align with and complement IU 2030, renewing our determination to occupy the top tier in American higher education and lead boldly into the future. We are committed that our plan and planning process represent our full community, and be inclusive, transparent, collaborative, equity-minded, innovative, strengths-based, and future-focused.
A draft plan will be developed during the Fall 2022 semester under the direction of an executive committee with wide campus participation from faculty, students, staff, alumni, community partners, and other key constituencies. A completed plan will debut in March 2023, with implementation from July 2023 to June 2030.
The Bloomington Faculty President, Cathrine Reck, and Interim Vice Provost for Strategy and Innovation, Carrie Docherty, have agreed to serve as co-chairs for the executive committee and to help facilitate the process.
The executive committee will be supported by multiple subcommittees of highly engaged stakeholders with knowledge and experience relevant to their charge—student success and opportunity, research and creativity, and service to the state, nation, and beyond. All committees will meet weekly, and members will regularly seek ideas from their larger networks to ensure the inclusion of voices from across the campus.
A dedicated website will provide a transparent, inclusive way to follow our progress throughout, and I look forward to hearing from all of you during this process. As a member of the IU Bloomington community, you are invited to email vpsi@indiana.edu by Oct. 5 to nominate yourself or others to serve on the executive committee or on a sub-committee. Please specify area of expertise (student success and opportunity, transformative research and creativity, or service to the state and beyond).
As we stand on the precipice of new possibilities for public higher education, I look forward to tapping into the wisdom, experience, and knowledge of our most deeply engaged community members. Together, let’s set some bold and ambitious goals for IU Bloomington that place us securely on a path to preeminence for 2030 and beyond.
Sincerely,
Rahul Shrivastav
Provost and Executive Vice President
Indiana University Bloomington
