The IUB 2030 student success initiatives are designed to ensure the long-term success of all students—undergraduates, graduates, professional, and online, as well as lifelong learners. We will reenvision the first-year experience, define academic and cocurricular milestones, and embed career-relevant experiences into degree programs. Graduate and professional students will benefit from excellence and innovation in academic training, professional and career development, and receive the comprehensive support they seek. All students will experience a supportive and empowering environment and will be prepared for life after graduation.

Increase student involvement and feelings of inclusion and belonging.
Status: New Associate Vice Provost for Involvement and Belonging, Dr. Vicka Bell-Robinson, is spearheading the creation of a new working group to focus on creating a new model for student involvement/belonging. The working group will begin their work in April.

Improve academic and career advising and interventions along more fully defined career pathways.
Status: A working group focused on academic advising submitted a report with their recommendations for consideration and next steps.

Expand resources for career development (includes curricular innovation, career-based support, and workforce opportunities).
Status: A new platform for postdoctoral opportunities was launched through the Big10 Academic Alliance Postdoc Organization, allowing IU to share its postdoc opportunities in a targeted way.
The IU Graduate School Bloomington continues to grow its one-to-one coaching program to enhance support for graduate students.

Create innovative new academic programs that leverage the existing strengths of the campus and address student, community, and industry demand.
Status: The IU Bloomington Graduate School is developing new degree programs, including new accelerated master's programs as part of AMP IU, in response to industry demand.

Increase the use of evidence-based pedagogy and inclusive teaching practices.
Status: The Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning (CITL) has developed website resources for faculty focused on evidence-based pedagogy.
Selected IUB schools began participating in a new initiative called the Crimson Course Transformation. Eight courses that currently have high rates of students with a D, F, or W (withdrawal) are taking part. Additional resources are being provided for these courses. Students in the participating courses are taking part in a survey to assess their opinions on topics including resources, support, and belonging.

Ensure student-friendly campus policies.
Status: Work is underway with two units—the Office of Student Life and Undergraduate Education—to evaluate whether current policies serve student needs.

Ensure efficacy and integration of academic and co-curricular technology systems.
Status: A partnership with Stellic —a comprehensive online student success platform—was announced in fall 2023, and various working groups are strategizing on how to leverage that partnership to integrate existing academic and technology systems.

Project Inspire: Optimize curricular learning spaces.
Status: Through Project Inspire, IUB dedicated up to $5 million per year to enhance campus learning spaces, including biology and chemistry teaching laboratories and related supported areas that serve over 2,400 undergraduate students each semester. Renovations of student learning spaces will begin in biology in summer 2024, and in chemistry in summer 2025.

Reimagine the undergraduate first-year experience (with the aim of increasing retention, lowering DFW in gateway classes, and getting students to better familiarize and adapt to IU's core academic goals/mission).
Status: Three sub-groups have worked throughout the semester on first-year experience initiatives.
The first-year seminar sub-group developed a set of proposed learning outcomes required for the common first-year seminar course, as well as a phased timeline for piloting the objectives in already-existing courses in fall 2024. They are working to finalize associated teaching guides for each learning outcome.
The transfer student transition experience sub-group has outlined four areas of focus for their work and has submitted a report with their proposed recommendations for consideration.

Ensure an annual experiential learning opportunity for every undergraduate student.
Status: The working group for this initiative continues to meet and has identified classes that would fulfill an experiential learning requirement. The group is currently exploring approval pathways for both curricular and cocurricular experiential learning activities, as well as how to track and record these activities. A final set of recommendations will be submitted for consideration before the end of the semester.
