Moving from ideas to action

August 17, 2023

Dear IUB faculty and staff,

Following yesterday’s message from President Whitten about university-wide IU 2030 efforts, I write today to share important progress in strategic plan implementation at IU Bloomington.

As I previewed over the summer, we have now developed a full implementation plan for IUB 2030.

I am deeply grateful to our IUB 2030 Executive Leadership Team (ELT), led by co-chairs Stacy Morrone and Rick Van Kooten, as well as Vasti Torres. Thanks to the work of this campuswide team and many others, we are now seeing significant action across our campus in support of IU 2030’s three pillars to drive student success and opportunity, pursue transformational research and creativity, and serve the state of Indiana and beyond.

On our IUB 2030 website, you can view the high-level initiatives already underway or launching this fall connected to IUB 2030 implementation. These include:

  • Ensuring an annual experiential learning opportunity for every undergraduate student (Student Success and Opportunity)
  • Strengthening research collaborations in the state’s innovation ecosystem (Transformative Research and Creativity)
  • Creating a community engagement infrastructure (Service to the State and Beyond)

Many of these initiatives include new working groups that will be active throughout the upcoming year. I encourage you to seek out ways you can join these efforts and contribute directly to the success of our plan.

As President Whitten noted in her message, we will continue to provide regular points of engagement and updates throughout the academic year, including our shared progress against IUB 2030 objectives and tangible stories of impact.

I truly believe that our shared vision for IUB 2030 will have a tremendous impact for our students, our scholarship, and the communities we serve. I look forward to advancing our ambitious plans together.

Sincerely,

Rahul Shrivastav
Provost and Executive Vice President
